The Maluku Provincial Government (“Maluku Provincial Government”) in the Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) for 2019-2024 has declared the main action program “Electricity for All” and the mission is to realize professional, creative, independent and high-achieving human resources -The dream of realizing a Prosperous Maluku can soon be realized.

In order to realize the RPJMD, the Maluku Provincial Government announced the “soft launching” of two flagship programs; one of these programs is the Maluku 500 MW Program : From Katong Par Katong; initiated by BUMD Maluku Provincial Government PT. Maluku Energi Abadi (Perseroda) which is escorted by the Mining and Energy Office of the Maluku Province. One of these programs is:

Maluku 500 MW Program : From Katong Par Katong

This program was launched to accelerate the development and utilization of gas sources discovered by Citic Seram Energy Ltd as K3S (Cooperation Contract Contractor) for the Seram Non-Bula WK since 2012 so that they can be developed immediately and provide solutions in the electricity sector by providing gas supply for Power Plants. PLN’s Gas Engine (PLTMG) which until now is still using High Speed Diesel (HSD) because it has not yet received a gas supply.

Supporting gas PT. Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) participates in the 500 MW Maluku program. On Tuesday, March 30, 2021, President Director of Pertagas Miko Megantoro signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Director of PT. Maluku Energi Abadi Musalam Latuconsina for a joint plan to develop gas infrastructure and operate a 500 MW Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG) in Maluku Province. This collaboration is to support the work program of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and SKK Migas in providing access and sufficient energy supply for the people of Maluku.

The gas potential is also believed to be able to support the gas supply for the National Strategic Project “Maluku Lumbung Ikan Nasional (MLIN)” as well as supply existing and new power plants in Maluku Province and its surroundings according to the 2018-2028 RUPTL which is equivalent to a total capacity of 500 MW. President Director of PT. Maluku Abadi Energi Musalam Latuconsina targets to be achieved in 2025 with a total investment value of 12 trillion rupiah, to create a Maluku Gas Market sourced from the Gas Field in Maluku, with the slogan circular economy in Maluku “from katong par katong”.

Deputy for Finance and Monetization of SKK Migas, Arief S. Handoko said “Regarding the electricity supply program in Maluku Province through the use of natural gas resources, SKK Migas strongly supports the implementation of the program because it is a mandate from the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 13 of 2020 concerning the power plant conversion program. diesel into gas-fired power plants as a form of improving the management of more efficient energy supply,”

President Director of PT. State Gas Company TBk., Suko Hartono expressed his gratitude & appreciation to the Maluku Provincial Government for their trust in the Pertamina Group to support the generator gasification program in Maluku province.

“This collaboration is in line with the vision of the Pertamina Gas Subholding, namely maximizing gas in the journey of a sustainable energy transition, as well as being the contribution of the Pertamina Group in evenly distributing energy infrastructure development, especially natural gas in Maluku Province,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Maluku, Murad Ismail, expressed his optimism that with the launch of the 500 MW program, apart from making Maluku Province a bright country, it is also hoped that it will provide concrete economic added value to all Maluku people, so that Maluku Province is finally free from poverty.

“The utilization of national natural gas will encourage the efficiency of electrical energy production, which will actually be able to become a driving force for the economy of Maluku Province with the availability of competitive and sustainable electrical energy,” concluded Murad.
